CMTP was founded in 1972 with a commitment to provide training in Multicultural Psychology. The program's primary mission has always been and remains focused on training multiculturally oriented psychologists to work with inner-city, low income and racially/ethnically diverse population. We emphasize training in culturally competent and community-oriented approaches to psychological thought and practice. We aim to train and develop future leaders in the field of Psychology consistent with the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Guidelines on Multicultural Education, Training, Research, Practice and Organizational Change for Psychologists. Applicants with a demonstrated interest in issues of multiculturalism and diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants are required to have completed all coursework and comprehensive examinations for their doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology by the start of the internship year. The general criteria for selection include study in an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology, completion of comprehensive examinations, clinical experience (individual, group, family, child and adult), testing experience, community-based experience and experience or interests in providing psychological services to a diverse urban population.
